Residents of our hometown have grown accustomed to sharing our heritage and our tulips with big crowds of more than 500,000 tourists every May during Holland’s annual Tulip Time Festival. But this year there will be no crowds, no celebrations, no klompen dancing… coronavirus cancelled Tulip Time for the first time in 90+ years.
And yet, it seems no one shared the concept of social distancing with the more than 5 million tulips that line our streets, our gardens, our town… because they’re more beautiful and bountiful than ever before. Deep reds, vivacious yellows, and exuberant oranges create a sense of calm during a time that has been challenging for us all.
Our team created a Tulip Time-themed cocktail once again this year for your enjoyment… but you’ll need to craft it in the comfort of your own home. “Tulip Thyme” is an inviting mixture of Coppercraft Gin, thyme-flavored syrup, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and a couple dashes of angostura bitters. Garnish it with a sprig of thyme for maximum aromatic and aesthetic pleasure.
“Tulip Thyme”
- 2 oz Coppercraft Gin
- .75 oz thyme syrup (recipe here)
- .75 oz lemon juice
- 2 dashes angostura aromatic bitters
Combine ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake and serve in Collins glass with thyme sprig garnish.
Happy Tulip Time, all.
