At Coppercraft, great bourbon starts with respect for tradition. Grain, barrel, and time form the foundation of our Straight Bourbon Whiskey. But tradition can be a springboard for exploration, and our new special finish bourbons are an example of that.
Our Straight Bourbon Whiskey now has two special finishes: one in toasted barrels and one in rum barrels. Each finishing barrel interacts with the spirit in a unique way, adding extra layers of character and complexity while respecting the integrity of the base bourbon.
Toasted Barrel Finish: Enhancing Oak and Smoke
Toasted barrels are heated more gently than traditional charred barrels. This process emphasizes the wood’s natural compounds, which can subtly enhance notes of oak, smoke, and caramel in the whiskey. Finishing the bourbon in toasted barrels allows it to absorb these influences, creating a deeper, more layered expression that feels richer without altering the fundamental character.
Rum Barrel Finish: Adding Sweetness and Depth
Rum barrels carry residual sugars from their previous use. Finishing bourbon in these barrels allows the whiskey to interact with those elements, which can contribute additional sweetness, richness, and complexity. The rum cask finish doesn’t change the bourbon itself but adds subtle new dimensions, giving drinkers a distinctive experience that complements the base spirit.
Two Paths, One Coppercraft Approach
Both finishes extend our Straight Bourbon Whiskey in ways that explore new flavor possibilities while staying true to the craftsmanship, patience, and quality that define Coppercraft. Toasted barrels highlight wood and smoke, and rum barrels bring extra depth and sweetness. Together, they show how finishing can expand a bourbon’s character without compromising its essence.
