How to Get a Healthy Buzz: Summer’s Best Low ABV Cocktails

  • 05/22/2023
  • Recipe
  • Coppercraft Team

Summer has a vibrant energy that encourages us to get outside – on the water and in the sand – and to prioritize our physical health. Longer days and warmer weather means more time and more energy to engage in our favorite sports, which means we want cocktails that won’t knock us out of the game too quickly. Low ABV cocktails provide a mild buzz that aligns with our busy summer schedules. They’re lighter, more balanced, and offer a healthier alternative to traditional high-proof cocktails. Savor the flavors of the season with five of our best low ABV cocktail recipes below:

Lake Michigan Froth

A citrusy gin fizz that’s light enough to enjoy on the beach.

  • 1 oz Coppercraft Gin
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • .5 oz simple syrup
  • 2-3 dashes of orange bitters
  • Club soda, to top
  • Lemon peel, garnish

Combine Coppercraft Gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, and orange bitters in shaker. Shake well with ice and strain into a glass filled with ice cubes. Top with club soda and gently stir. Garnish with a lemon peel twist.

Stubborn Mule

A low ABV cocktail with a little kick of ginger.

  • 1 oz Coppercraft Blend of Straight Bourbon Whiskies
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 4 oz ginger beer
  • Pinch of grated ginger
  • 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Lime wedge, garnish

Fill a copper mug or glass with ice cubes. Add Coppercraft Blend of Straight Bourbon Whiskies and lime juice. Top with ginger beer. Add a few dashes of Angostura bitters and grated ginger.  Gently stir and garnish with a lime wedge.

Grapefruit Vodka Spritzer

A splash of citrus vodka with fresh grapefruit juice.

  • 1 oz Coppercraft Citrus Vodka
  • 3 oz grapefruit juice
  • 1 oz sparkling water
  • .5 oz agave nectar
  • Grapefruit slice, garnish

Fill a glass with ice cubes. Pour Coppercraft Citrus Vodka, grapefruit juice, sparkling water, and agave nectar into the glass. Stir gently to combine and garnish with a slice of grapefruit.

Whiskey Sun Slushy

A grown-up, tangy lemonade slushy for summer days.

  • 1 oz Coppercraft Rye Whiskey
  • 2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • Lemon slice, garnish

Combine Coppercraft Rye Whiskey, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and ice cubes in a blender. Blend on high speed until the mixture reaches a smooth and slushy-like consistency. Taste and adjust the sweetness or tartness by adding more simple syrup or lemon juice, if desired. Pour the frozen cocktail into a glass. Garnish with a lemon slice.

Mojito Light

A traditional mojito with a little less booze and a little less sugar.

  • 1 oz Coppercraft Holland to Holland Rum
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 5 mint leaves
  • 1 cup ice
  • 8 oz Diet Lemon Lime Soda

Muddle lime and mint in a glass. Pour Coppercraft Holland to Holland Rum over lime and mint. Add ice and top with Diet Lemon Lime Soda. Stir and garnish with a lime slice and or a sprig of fresh mint.
