The world’s finest speakeasies and the State of Michigan have something in common: both are often underestimated and overlooked. And while we enjoy the exclusivity of our earthly Elysium, this month we’re allowing you a glimpse at our manifestations of mixed-drink, Michigan magic in honor of our state’s birthday on January 26.
Named after one of Michigan’s most influential exports, “The Madonna” leaves your taste buds baffled and wondering, “What are these flavors that are so shiny and new?” Our team starts with our Coppercraft Blend of Straight Bourbon Whiskies, adds Michigan cherry syrup, and finishes with Guernsey Farm’s heavy cream.
1.5 oz Coppercraft Blend of Straight Bourbon Whiskies
1 oz Michigan cherry syrup
1 oz Guernsey Farm’s heavy cream
Shake with ice and strain into coupe, top with three cherries and chocolate shavings.
Traditionally made with French “Calvados,” our “Jack Rose” uses a base liquor that obtains its flavor from once-fresh Michigan apples turned cider and fermented into a scrumptious brandy. A great drink in any season, the “Jack Rose” has no problem serving as the focal point of your cocktail bouquet.
2oz Coppercraft Applejack
.75 oz grenadine
.5 oz lime juice
Shake with ice and strain into coupe, garnish with lime swirl.
Made famous by the man who many simply called “Papa,” this concoction was supposedly responsible for getting Ernest out of bed each morning. While it’s true he was a travel fanatic, when he wasn’t on safari hunting big game or in Spain running with the bulls, Hemingway took sanctuary in the quiet woods that surround Walloon Lake in Northern Michigan. It’s said that he drank this magnificent elixir from sunrise until the witching hour… Or until his behemoth thirst had been quenched.
2oz Coppercraft White Rum
.75 oz grapefruit juice
.25 oz luxardo liqueur
.5 oz lime juice
.25 oz simple syrup
Shake with ice and strain into coupe, garnish with lime wheel.
