Each year, near the beginning of February, the common American suffers the abominable injustice that is the Academy Awards… Red carpets are rolled out, stunning articles of clothing are sown and sauntered around in by people special enough to wear them, interviews are had, awards are received, and expensive champagne cascades unto the theatre floor due to excessive cheersing. And all the while, we’re at home, sitting in front of our television set with a bottle of cheap sparkling wine, wishing for a way to make our booze more bougie than all of the Academy’s antics combined. This year, we’re in luck. Coppercraft has created 9 cocktails, each more extravagant than the last, to represent the 9 “Best Picture” nominees. Why settle for normality when you can drink like a star?

1) “J.P.” for Joker
Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal in Joker is far darker than any of his predecessors. It’s a wonderful film, but you may need a few of these to calm your nerves upon conclusion!
- 1.5 oz Coppercraft Vodka
- .75 oz blueberry syrup
- .75 oz lemon juice
- 5 basil leaves
- Egg white
Combine in shaker, dry shake, add ice, shake again. Strain into coupe. Garnish with four drops of angostura aromatic bitters, use toothpick to create smile. Fold two basil leaves, place above smile.
2) “Union Man” for The Irishman
Scorsese’s most recent work is by far his most impressive from a cinematic perspective. Anyone who can make Robert Deniro, Joe Peschi, and Al Pacino look young again deserves an award all their own. Drink a couple of these let us know if we’ve succeeded.
- 2 oz Coppercraft Blend of Straight Bourbon Whiskies
- .75 oz Blue Spruce syrup
- .75 oz lemon juice
- .25 oz Irish Mist
Combine in shaker. Shake with ice and strain into tall rocks glass. Add ice. Garnish with lemon and lime wheels.
3) “A Case of Mistaken Identity” for Parasite
A great depiction of how terribly things can go when a harmless deception goes too far, Parasite, directed by Korean Mastermind, Bong Joon-ho, seems to be one of this year’s front-runners in the Best Picture category. Both entertaining and thought provoking, it’s definitely worth the watch.
- 2 oz Coppercraft Vodka
- 3 oz Matcha tea
- .75 oz lemon juice
- .5 oz orange syrup
Combine in shaker and shake with ice. Strain into Collins glass. Add ice, top with mineral water, garnish with orange segment.
4) “Sharon’s Sunrise” for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Tarantino holds true to his quirky, yet genius style of directing in this strange, immensely satisfying project. As usual, his casting was perfect and the story was so ridiculous, if we didn’t already know what really happened in the summer of ‘69, we might just take his account as fact. In order to appreciate his vision of what could have been, we’ve done our best to give Ms. Tate one final sunrise.
- 3 oz Coppercraft Barrel-Aged Rum
- 1 oz grapefruit juice
- .75 oz lime juice
- 1 oz honey syrup
- 3 drops orange blossom water
- 4 dashes of coconut syrup
- 6 mint leaves
Combined in shaker and shake with ice. Strain into tiki glass. Garnish with half grapefruit and two mint sprigs.
5) “The Split” from Marriage Story
More of a deep dive into the world of what ending a marriage looks like rather than the story of a successful one, this movie is an emotional hike that hits every peak on the spectrum.
- 2oz Coppercraft Rum
- .75 oz lemon juice
- 1 oz mint syrup
- 2 barspoons of your favorite restaurant wine
Combine Coppercraft Rum, lemon, and syrup in shaker. Shake with ice. Strain into rocks glass, add big cube. Carefully pour wine atop cube to achieve red wine float. Garnish with lemon twist and mint sprig.
6) “JoJo’s Bliss” from Jojo Rabbit
A truly odd experience, Jojo Rabbit is perfect for anyone who is looking for a serious history lesson, but also wants to accompany it with a little nonsensical childishness. To emulate this balance, we’ve crafted a batched shandy that’s perfect for parties.
- 4 of your favorite bottles of pilsner beer
- 6 oz Coppercraft Vodka
- 3 oz lemon juice
- 1/4 cup of Demerara and ginger syrup
- Handful of mint
Combine ingredients into vessel large enough to fit four drinks. Fill with ice and stir. Serve in Collins glasses. Garnish with lemon wedge. Makes four per batch.
7) “Behind Enemy Lines” from 1917
1917 is a heavy tale centered around a troop of brothers in arms that find themselves fighting for their lives behind enemy lines. It’s a fitting depiction of war and all of its atrocities, but we figured you may need something a bit more uplifting to balance your spirit.
- 1.5 oz Coppercraft Gin
- .75 oz Thatcher’s Elderflower Liqueur
- .75 oz lemon juice
- 2 barspoons luxardo cherry juice
Combined Coppercraft Gin, Thatcher’s Elderflower Liqueur, and lemon in stirring glass. Stir with ice and strain into coupe. Gently use barspoons to submerge luxardo juice at bottom of glass. Garnish with lemon peel and luxardo cherry.
8) “Four Sisters” from Little Women
Saoirse Ronan and company shine in this beautiful story of sisterhood. True to the idea that siblings often have to grow apart before they learn to appreciate and love one another to the fullest, the message in Little Women is worth taking to heart. Much like a dedicated sibling, you’ll want this cocktail by your side in times of tribulation.
- 2 oz Coppercraft Rye
- 1.5 oz Thatcher’s Prickly Pear Liqueur
- 1 oz lemon juice
- .75 peach & lavender balsamic
Combine ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake and strain into snifter. Add ice and garnish with lemon wheel and lavender blossoms.
9) “Ford or Ferrari?” for Ford vs Ferarri
In 1966, the world’s leading car makers met in France for a race. Ford wasn’t considered one-such manufacturer, but decided to go toe-to-toe with vehicular powerhouse, Ferrari, anyway. We’ve decided to give you a choice here, do you go with the classic? Or the dark horse who’s poised to make a run late in the race?
Classic Negroni (Ferrari)
- Equal parts Coppercraft Gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth
Combine ingredients in stirring glass and stir with ice. Strain into rocks glass. Add big rock. Garnish with orange twist.
Electric Blue Limeade (Ford)
