6 Winter Sports Paired with 6 Winter Cocktails

Sport doesn’t stop when the snow starts falling in Michigan. In fact, it only gets more impressive. A select few will stand atop mountains in 10-degree weather and 30 mph winds or trudge through snow drifts that stand 3 ft high. These 6 winter sports paired with 6 winter cocktails provide the ultimate cold-weather rush for those ready to get outside and challenge themselves.

#6 – Ice Skating

Ice skating is thousands of years old, and still a classic today. Whether spinning pirouettes or taking baby glides on the rink, ice skating is one of the more popular winter sports.

Triple Jump

  • 1.5 oz Coppercraft Straight Bourbon Whiskey
  • .75 oz Creme de Cacao
  • .75 oz Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao
  • .5 oz half-and-half
  • Club soda, to top
  • Dark chocolate, garnish
  • Dehydrated orange wheel, garnish

Rim a Collins glass with chocolate and set aside. In a shaker tin add all the ingredients except club soda and dry shake. Add ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into your prepared glass with fresh ice and top with club soda. Garnish with a dehydrated orange wheel.

#5 – Sledding

The foundation for three Winter Olympic sports – luge, skeleton, and bobsledding – and the most accessible of all winter sports.

Boozy Hot Chocolate

  • 3 oz Coppercraft Rum
  • 16 oz whole milk
  • 6 oz semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • .5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch kosher salt
  • Mini marshmallows or whipped cream, garnish

Read full instructions and recipe here.

#4 – Fat Tire Snow Biking

A rad style of riding that has you floating through snow drifts.

Pale Rider

  • 1 oz Coppercraft Straight Bourbon Whiskey
  • 1 oz honey
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • 1 sugar cube
  • Orange zest, garnished

Soak the sugar cube in Coppercraft Straight Bourbon Whiskey on a bar spoon. Add to glass. Stir in fresh pressed orange juice, honey, and Coppercraft Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Top with cracked ice, garnish and serve.

#3 – Downhill Skiing

A fast-paced and adrenaline-fueled pursuit that requires strength, stamina, and an après ski drink.

Flinn’s Après Steazy

  • 1.5 oz Lucano amaro
  • .75 oz Coppercraft Rye Whiskey
  • .75 oz Campari
  • .50 oz Thatcher’s Organic Elderflower Liqueur
  • .75 oz lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • Lemon twist, garnish

Add the Lucano amaro, Coppercraft Rye Whiskey, Campari, Thatcher’s Organic Elderflower Liqueur, and lemon juice into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Double-strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube. Garnish with lemon twist.

#2 – Snowboarding

A great view and fresh air pair well with skiing’s younger cousin and lift, fluffy, powdery snow.

Snowboard

  • 1 oz Coppercraft Vodka
  • 1 oz eggnog
  • Crushed ice
  • Soda water to top
  • Kiwi slice, garnish

Mix everything together in a highball glass. Make sure ice is crushed, almost like “slush.” Serve with a slice of kiwi.

#1 – Hockey

A Midwest classic that turns frozen ponds into ice arenas.

Zamboni

  • 2 oz Coppercraft Straight Bourbon Whiskey
  • .5 oz simple syrup
  • 2 lemon wedges
  • 8 mint leaves
  • Crushed Ice
  • Mint Leaf Garnish

Muddle 8 Mint Leafs. Add simple syrup and Coppercraft Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Shake and strain over crushed ice. Pour into a rocks glass and add mint leaf garnish. Squeeze in two lemon wedges.
